JOHN F. "JAY" McEWAN Of Portage & Florida, passed away Monday, February 7, 2005 in Okeechobee, Florida. He was a graduate of Emerson High School, Class of 1951. John enjoyed sports, especially his high school days at which he excelled at baseball playing third base. His hobbies were hunting and fishing. While fishing, Jay caught a walleye which was a record for the State of Indiana. He also enjoyed golfing with his family and friends. John retired from N.I.P.S.C.O. with 37 years of service and spent his winters in Florida. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jackie of Portage; 2 sons, John (Lynn) McEwan, Jr. of Beaumont, Texas and Larry (Charmaine) McEwan of Westville, Indiana; 2 daughters, Dawn (Pat) Bogart of Portage and Lorna (Gene) Pavlic of Lehigh Acres, FL; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; father, John McEwan of Flagler Beach, FL; 2 brothers, Terry (Carol) McEwan of Portage and George (Roberta) McEwan of Flagler Beach, FL. Preceded in death by his son, Michael, and mother, Helen. Funeral services Monday, February 14, 2005, 2 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Rev. Robert B. Evers, officiating. Burial will follow at McCool Cemetery in Portage. Visitation Monday, 11:00 a.m. until time of service at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.
