HARRY "HANK" SHAFFER JR. Age 76 years, of Portage, Indiana, passed away Saturday, December 25, 2004 in Valparaiso, Indiana. He was born December 31, 1927 in Gary, Indiana to parents, Harry and Goldie (Coffman) Shaffer Sr., who preceded him in death. Mr. Shaffer retired from Iron Workers Local #395 of Hammond. He was a commercial fisherman and loved fishing on Lake Michigan all of his life. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving as a Military Policeman and Paratrooper. Hank loved his wife, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and family very dearly. Survivors: wife of 49 years, Doris Shaffer of Portage; children, Penny (Joe) Jargella of Hebron, Sharon (Russell) Landrum of Portage, Curt Shaffer of Portage and Sandra Lynn Shaffer of Michigan City; sisters, Rickie DiCesare of Portage, Betty Nagy of Lake Village, LaVerne (Jim) Gursky of Bass Lake, Pat (John) Pavlakavic of Portage, Mabele (Dale) Pennington of Portage; grandchildren, Curt P. Shaffer, Robert O. Carter Jr., Heather L. Rogers, Carley M. Shaffer, Alicia L. Monnier; great grandchildren, Johah Monnier Jr. and Savannah Boots. Preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Roxann Shaffer; and brother, Bill Shaffer. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, IN. Pastor Tim McGuire officiating. Interment McCool Cemetery, Portage. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 29, 2004 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions may be given to the family.
