Obituary
Marvin E. Dame, age 78 of Valparaiso, Indiana, passed away on December 28, 2009 after a valiant battle against cancer. Born in Hanson, Kentucky on March 4, 1931, he married his beloved wife, Helen Dame, who survives, on June 24, 1950. He is also survived by his daughters, Marvena Dame and Terrie Jaquet; sons, Edward (Donna) Dame and Jeffrey Dame; his granddaughter, Jessica Dame, all of Valparaiso; grandsons, Jason Simpson of Chesterton, and Cpl. Ryan (Katrina) Dame, currently serving a tour of duty in Afghanistan; great grandson Kieran Dame; and his sisters, Ruthie DeMoss of Hopkinsville, KY, and Catherine Zachary of Porter. Mr. Dame was retired from USX, after 38 of service, and owned and operated Dames Janitorial Service for over 20 years. He was a member of Local 1066, a charter member of the South Haven Fire Department, served as coach for the South Haven Little League, active in politics (serving several terms as a precinct committeeman and a term on the Portage Township Board) and was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nila Dame; grandson, William Simpson; parents, Jesse and Goldie (Ellis) Dame; brothers, JH Dame and Calbert Dame; brothers-in-law, Darrell Simmons, Carl DeMoss and Thomas Zachary and son-in-law, Peter Jaquet. Marvin will be remembered as a loyal friend and great worrier. He kept a phone list handy and constantly kept in touch with family and friends, always worrying about their health and general well being. He was teased often about being such a worrier, but took it in good humor. We love you, Daddy. Please rest easy and don’t worry about us. Visitation will take place at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, located at 6941 Central Ave., Portage, IN 46368, (219) 762-1330 on Saturday, January 2, 2009 from 2 to 6 pm.
