Obituary

Marvena M. Dame, age 64 of Valparaiso, IN passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2020 with family by her side. She was born on April 14, 1956 in Evansville, IN to Marvin and Helen (Arnold) Dame. Marvena is survived by son, Jason Simpson of Valparaiso; brothers, Edward (Donna) Dame and Jeffrey Dame, both of Valparaiso; sister, Terrie Dame of TN; niece, Jessica Cox; nephew, Ryan Dame; and her canine protector, Baby Girl. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Nila Dame; and son, William Simpson. Marvena graduated from Portage High School class of 1974. After school she worked for BuyLow then worked briefly with McColly Real Estate in Merrillville, IN. She then found her career as a Legal Secretary in Chicago for nearly 30 years. She loved her jobs and loved the people she worked with there like family. Marvena was an amazing mother, not just to her son, but to every friend he ever brought home. She called them all “the rest of my kids”. She always made sure that everyone got included, everyone was safe, and everyone had something to eat. Marvena could be nice to anybody and expected her family to do the same. Marvena enjoyed to travel, never missing a chance for a road trip with family or friends. Even if it was a 5-hour drive to eat dinner at Moonlight and come home. Her favorite part was playing her music and sharing laughter during the drive, always making the trip as fun as the destination. We love you mom. Give Mammaw & Pappaw a hug from us all. Let them know we’ll be ok. Don’t keep yourself too busy pouring out the rain. Private family services for Marvena will be held at a later date.
