Helen L. Dame of Valparaiso, IN rose to heaven on September 16, 2013. She was born in Rumsey, KY on January 1, 1935. Helen married her beloved husband, Marvin Dame, who preceded her in death after 59 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her father, William (Elsie) Arnold; her mother, Geneva (Earl) Simmons; mama, May (Alan) Smith; sister, Carroll Ann Simmons; daughter, Nila Dame; grandson, William Simpson; son-in-law, Peter Jaquet; and brother, Darrel Simmons. Helen is survived by her adoring children: Marvena Dame, Terrie Jaquet, Edward (Donna) Dame, and Jeffrey Dame, all of Valparaiso; her grandchildren: Jason Simpson, Jessica (Greg) Cox, and Ryan (Ashlee) Dame; great grandchildren: Kieran Dame and Logan Cox; sisters: Wanda (Albin) Ray of Owensboro, KY, Sharon (James) Fallin of Lewisport, KY, Carlene (William) Koch of Springhill, FL, Eruma (Davis) Taylor of Harrodsburg, KY, and Donna Thompson of Owensboro, KY; numerous nieces and nephews. Helen spent many years as a nurse’s aide in Gary Hospital and Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso. She and Marvin owned and operated Dame’s Janitorial Service for 20 years. Helen retired after 10 years as Democratic Director of Porter County Voter’s Registration and Vice County Chair of Porter County Democratic Committee. She remained a Porter County Precinct Person until her passing. Helen was a devoted mother. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her loyalty, quick wit, and generous spirit. Mom, we are so blessed to have had you and Daddy in our lives. Your love, laughter, and devotion will be with us always. Give Daddy a hug for us and know that per God’s grace we will all be together again one day. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, IN 46368 with Chris and Patty Alsip officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 2:00 pm until the time of services at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will follow.
