Obituary
Gary Ruble Brewer, Sr., 75, of Lake Station went home to the Lord, where he was reunited with his loving wife, on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, in Portage, Indiana. He was born June 8, 1948, in Cleveland, Tennessee to the late Charles Edward, Sr. and Pearl Marie (McCurry) Brewer.
Gary was drafted in to the US Army Airborne Division during the Vietnam era, proudly serving his country from 1968 to 1970.
Gary met his wife, Sheryl Kaye Higgins-Brewer, and married her on September 21, 1968, and together they raised three children. He worked for Bethlehem Steel until his retirement. He was a member of the 29th Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed being part of that congregation. In his spare time, since he was a young man, Gary enjoyed researching the genealogy of his family, tracing back their roots to royalty in Europe. Above all, he loved his family fiercely. He will be greatly missed.
Gary will be forever remembered by his children, Christina Renae (Roger) Dooley, Gary Ruble (Tina) Brewer, Jr., and Timothy Dewayne Brewer; grandchildren, Kayela , Tamberlain (Trevor), Andrew , Austin, Haley, Sierra (Kalvin), Jacelyn, Alexis, Arianna, Teah, Tryton and Jarrod; three great grandchildren, Jaxon Greyson and Tanner; and siblings, Kenneth (Debbie) Brewer, Linda Coffman, Anthony (Kathy) Brewer, Page (Dave) Molnar, Tina Dilbeck (Jeff), and Tammy (Bob) Whisenant; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Gary was preceded in passing by his brother, Charles Edward Brewer, Jr.
Family will receive friends Friday, August 11 from 2:00pm – 8:00pm at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart Chapel, 600 W Old Ridge Rd, Hobart, IN 46342. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 12, at 11:00am, also at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart; to be officiated by Pastor Bill Taylor.
