Obituary
ANDREW R. "RUDY" METZ Age 72, of Portage, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2003 at home. Rudy was a lifelong Portage/Lake Station area resident and a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean Era. He was retired from U.S. Steel in Gary and a member of U.S.W.A. Local #1014. Mr. Metz was a member of A.A.R.P., the N.R.A., the Portage Moose, American Legion Post #100 and V.F.W. Post #9323 in Lake Station. Rudy attended Edison High School, class of 1949, was an avid fisherman and his hobbies included cars and CB radios. He is survived by his 2 sons, Ron (Connie) Metz of Hobart, James (April) Metz of Lake Station; daughter, Kathy (Lyn) Metz-Barreiro of Gary; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brother, William Metz of Portage; sister, Eleanor Pristika of Chicago; many nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by grandson, Dustin Metz; 3 sisters, Barbara Hauprich, Marge Sherbak & Florence Metz and brother, Stephen Metz. Funeral services are Monday, June 30, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage with Rev. Dale P. Combs officiating. Burial will follow at McCool Cemetery in Portage. In lieu of flowers contributions to the family would be appreciated. Visitation is Sunday from 2-8 p.m. with American Legion service at 7 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 762-3013.
